Winter sika tips
Hey guys, I am heading into the kaimanawas in a couple of weeks for a flyfishing weekend but thought it would be rude not to have a look for some sika while im at it. Unfortunately I have only 1 day of extremely fun but also extremely unsuccessful sika hunting under my belt. Anyone got any tips on how to find them. Not looking for your secret spot but some general tips would be very appreciated.

Use binos and watch the bush/scrub edges for an hour or more at first and last light

Winter hunting sika can be productive, on warm sunny days hunt the sunny areas, sika love the sun after a cold night. Hunt slowly with a wind in your face and you should do alright. look for fresh sign then hunt at that level.

Pretty much what has been said above. Find out sunrise direction on your compass and look at your map and https://zoom.earth/ for clearings the sun will hit in the early morning. Frosty mornings are best as they will be out to soak up all the warmth they can. Get the wind in your favour and move quietly.
