From what I could gather there were always the same few names pulled out of the hat.

Yeah that's why I've never put my name in. Although I am no great white hunter, the time exploring the usual haunts is well spent.

Doe permits are always a good option. Plenty of them around just the bucks are cunning and quick.

    Guys,
Contrary to my previously held beliefs about ballots being a scam, Ive drawn one this year for the first time ever,
You have to be in it to win it.

Hmmmm..... Or maybe they've purposely given you one this year to cover up the fact that it is a scam?

LOL definitely a conspiracy, I've got in this year! Maybe its because I entered the ballot... or was it that I joined the FreeMasons?

But seriously, the guys that run the woodhill ballot do a shedload of unpaid work to preserve the herd and provide hunting opportunities, give them some respect and stop the bull.

    Who did you bribe? Hahahaha

I didn't mean to discredit the guys who run it as I know some through nzda. Just pointing out that there is a perception. And perceptions matter as we all know.

Perhaps some years are more heavily subscribed than others?
It would certainly go some ways to creating a perception that the same people always get drawn, when in fact they just regularly apply and not everyone does.....

I am not sure. I think it possibly has something to do with how you enter and with who. Because you can take x amount of people and "observers" in your party.

Meh... could be a case of selling out to the highest bidder if you lot north of Taupo aren't careful.... Then it will be a case of a fat office worker getting in every time because he (or she...) is prepared to pay more than you.
The reality is that this has happened elsewhere - a ballot brings in F-All money for those volunteering (or being paid - it doesn't matter...)
You would be better getting out of the pig-pen that is Auckland and moving to where New Zealand is more like it used to be.... because it is only a matter on time before all our interests are either steamrolled by the politically correct, or consumed by those prepared to pay more than we are.
Apologies for the cynicism - don't shoot the messenger.
