    Yankee River Block Stewart Island

    Hi Guys,

Got a mate that's booked Yankee River block on Stewart Island in mid April. Trying to find out any info I can on the place as have zero experience that far south. Looking at maps its quite a bushy block with a couple of small beeches on it. Has a big hut but that's because also used by trampers. Has anyone got any experience in this block? The other guys who are heading in on this trip can have short attention spans so am thinking they might struggle with the patience needed to hunt whitetail. But am happy to be proved wrong. Not expecting it to be an easy plan to hunt, definitely different to my usual tops hunting but up for a challenge.

    Cheers

Take a dingy or inflatable, good cod fishing just out from the beach.
When I stayed in the hut a group of hunters was camping down on the beach.
I talked to a fawn on a clearing just up the track from the hut, but I expect it's died of old age by now!

    Great bush hunting
    Coastal faces thick as
Some good slips to sit and glass on other side of river at beach landing which goes up and over to a nice beach
A trip to smokey is a great walk
Beach can be amazing.. But can also be a c@&t to get on and off
Drag your dinghy up into grass at back of beach and tie off
Flat but 200m carry of gear from beach to hut... Felt like that anyways
Great hut but can get busy
Nice place... Have done several trips. Track makes easy access to hunt ridges and valleys behind hut
