    17 Cal Centrefire - 17 Remington, 17 Fireball, 17 Hornet

    Looking for a good condition rifle. Rem 700, CZ527 etc. Not really that keen on Ruger 17/77's tho.

    Unfortunately sold my 17 Remington a few years back, and didn't realise what I had got rid off until I needed to reach out and touch some rabbits at ranges the 22lr couldn't reliably do.

    There was a fireball for sale in rotorua on trademe for quite sometime, I was very tempted. If you tell through the trademe thread you might find where I put up the link. If that is any help

    Thanks @charliehorse. I see there was an expired listing for a Brno 17 Rem in Rotorua, but that got sold.

    Every Ruger I have owned has required trigger work. Same can be said for out of the box Remington 700's too, but I have a Timney trigger I could swap into one. The CZ's apparently have a very nice adjustable trigger.

    The current rem's don't need trigger work - they just need a replacement trigger. The trigger can be set OK to a nice reliable 3lb with no creep or overtravel (perfect for hunting) but the design of the blade on the X-mark poo just sucks. The smooth blade is just an arse and a little bit of anything wet on your finger and it slides all over the place.

    Would you look at hanging a new tube on something?

    I'd never rule it out, but ideally wanted to be shooting it in a couple of weeks. Everything I have had rebarreled has taken a lot longer than that to get turned around.

    There is a 17 CZ at Cromwell hunting and fishing, think it has a scope and suppressor also.
    I don't know anything about it or how much work it has done.

    @quentin , all good, from memory it's a 527 wood / blue model. Looked pretty good but I didn't have a close look .
    Make your enquiry , they are a pretty good bunch down there but you will want to speak to either Larry or Tom , they have the most firearms knowledge.
    If you have no luck and get one of the staff who isn't to clued up on that section of the shop let me know and I will swing in for a closer look.

    One thing to be aware of down here is varmint rifles can have a very high round count due to rabbit numbers. Doesn't mean this one has though as there are still plenty of safe queens down in cabinets here also.
    Let me know how you get on, it's being on the shelf for awhile and it's not a popular cartridge round here so you may have some bargaining power.

    I know you want a 17 for your own reasons what ever they are thats ok. However you are limiting yourself to a small number of available rifles. Why not consider a 223 or 222 ot 204 all will reach out there, easy to load and heaps of off the shelf ammo out there. Just saying.

    Dead Eye Dicks do 17hornet in Anshutz, Reloaders have one in stock as well. Top quality rifles. CZ rifles come up reasonably regularly if your on the ball.
    Good luck
