It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.

I would be tempted to go for 17 hornet over hmr simply because it is a centerfire so it can be reloaded
So you can tailor the ammunition to the rifle serious shooters had a nice one (savage 25 light weight Varment)
For just under a k a couple of weeks ago

Depends a little on the volume of shooting I guess but the best thing about the hmr is you dont have to be picking up brass and reloading for it.

Don't have any reloading gear. Factory ammo does what I need it to do, most deer haven't asked me with it got hit with a reload or factory ammo. The club I belong to also do rimfire shoots that the hornet wouldn't be allowed to compete in. However in the future reloading is on the cards, the No4 303 likes to eat as much as possible at the range.

Go the HMR mate, great little varmint rifle.
I can highly recommend the Marlins, you can get a heavy barrel version and the accuracy is excellent.
Shooters world in Gore have them starting at $595 new ( bare rifle ).
There are several on TM also.
I've put thousands of rounds through mine and it's been faultless and very accurate .
CZ are nice and accurate also
