.22 rifle silencer/suppressor wanted (or advice about...).

Guys, I've just bought a Norinco JW15A rifle. I 'think' the barrel thread is 1/2" 20 (the little factory booklet doesn't bother to tell me).
Seems like a normal thread for .22 rifles anyway.
I would like to buy a silencer (before those Labour clowns ban them too).
Don't want a plastic jobbie thanks (prefer alloy construction), and must be quiet.
OR...recommend me a reasonable one available in NZ, such as DPT, Hushpower, HushPro,????
I made one years ago (when I had a lathe) and it was quiet as.
You could only hear the firing pin strike ('click' near your ear), then the thump of the bullet hit.
    That's how quiet I like!
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks.

DPT, then if you get a 223 with a 1/2x28 thread, you can always just buy a different threaded bit and a blast baffle if you want, and use the baffles off the 22lr one. Their 22lr one is only a shade over a hundred bucks if memory serves correctly

Thanks Tommy, but sadly no .223 anymore.
At 72 I'm getting past the deer hunting stage now. Shooting is fine...it's carrying the buggers out now that has me whopped.
So, only for .22 rimfire use, and want to train the grandkids to shoot too.
Yeah, I see some DPT gear on TM site. Will look around there.
    Thanks.

Buy direct off his website, it might be cheaper and he gets to keep more of it

I paid $110 for my DPT rimfire can from my local, same as buying direct.

My local is a good sort though, certainly no virtue signaling from them.

I have the same rifle...have had for years....recently got rid of my threaded one and now use my even older rifle without suppressor at all. with winchester 40-42grn powerpoint subsonics its that quiet anyway its hardly worth having the extra bit on end of an already long barrel...manders suppressors came with the norincos and thread is 1 in 20. Ive tried a big spartan can for grins n giggles and found not much more reduction from the wee manders one.

Mark at waitaki engineering sells stainless ones for about $100, super quiet my mate brought one and its incredible, you mentioned about only hearing the firing pin, well that's what they are like, and yes stainless steel is heavy compared to alloy but it will last forever

Sounds like you need to find a young bloke who needs some help with the basics. Get him to carry it ha.

22 does not have mush pressure behind it so as long as there is volume in the suppressor and a few baffles, most will work fine. Nothing wrong with the manders ones or many others out there. If you want it to really last then better quality like DPT , gunworks etc are worth looking at, but for cheap ones, look for an oil filter with the same thread as your 22. (You are likely correct with the thread size as this is very common size for 22 calibres.though it wont last as long and will look a "bit redneck".

My CZ512 has the DPT .22lr suppressor and its awesome and very light. I can highly recommend it. Also the 1/2x20 is their standard but they can also do x28 as well. As my AR suppressor is redundant, Iím getting my second CZ threaded by the DPT guys this week. Awesome guys to deal with.

@Grey Kiwi I have one on my jw15 currently that is just a no name jobbie.

Makes a significant difference but I found I am only really shooting subs and want to chop and recrown the really long ass barrel.

Soooo if you want it let me know and it's all yours.

Hi @Preacher Thanks for the offer...but...just bought one from a fellow member this morning. Dang! My bad timing.
It's a Hush Pro, and like you I am going to have the barrel chopped. I did read 'somewhere' years ago that a standard .22 develops best velocity in a 16" barrel length. After that any extra length starts to slow the projectile down.
Local guy charges $100 to chop barrel, re-thread, and re-crown.
Don't know if that's good or bad price.
