    284 barrel to fit tikka

Anyone got a 284win barrel that would fit a tikka T3 action they want to move along? Ideally looking for stainless, around 20" and low mileage....
    Cheers

Get a take off 7-08 and have it chambered.

I picked a new one up for $200 and had it reamed for $150.

    Shoots like a dream with 162 ELD-X.

Problem is no one will re-chamber the t3 barrels as it pokes their reamers apparently. Have a 7mm08 that I'm thinking of changing.

I know you will do what you want but having owned a 284 and then reloading for a mates short barrelled 708 I see no need for a 284. Loads will be a bit hotter to get closer performance from the same length barrel but everything is easier to get and can buy factory ammo if you get stuck

I like my 280 but 7mm08 hot loads really make it an endeavour not worth the effort

Yeah I've also thought similar things with the 7mm08. However I'm a terrible one for tinkering! Think I will play round with the RL17 and 150gr ELD-X some more....

Arthur Cleland did one for me just before lock down.

    Goes great with 150 gr NBT’s & RE17

I think there’s a gunsmith in the Vay if Plenty & Nelson area who will also ream out existing chambers

Well I’ve done two so far. Dave Ward in Dovedale did them for me with no problems.

162eldMs in a 708 with the right powder would be lethal. Could load them short and mag feed or if you have a tikka I would get a LA mag and bolt stop then you fan seat them long and get even more boogey

Use 308 lapua small rifle brass that you neck down to 7-08 and then you can push the pressure a tad more.
    A bit like that:https://westtexordnance.com/7mm-saw/
