.30 cal M1 carbines and mosin nagants

I was in Gun City Christchurch today and noticed that there were a Lot of

    .30 M1 Carbines
    Makers
    Rock ola
    National post
    IBM
    Inland
    Irwin
    Winchester

Prices for these started at $1500 and went up a lot for the more collectable makers.
Condition seemed to be fairly bloody good ( lots of them so plenty of variation ) on the metal work and military markings on the woodwork.
They were all WW2 US service and sold on to Israel and ex Israel now ( i think ! )

There were also a huge lot of mosin nagants in both hex and round receivers.
These are priced $699 and 799 depending on the receivers and condition.
The ones I had a quick look at were in very very good condition.
    And some were mint.
    Production 1929 to 1944

I know absolutely nothing about collecting military surplus rifles, but I do know that they are very cool
I do not have anything at all to do with Gun City
These rifles are totally not my thing .....
But I bet there are a few guys on here that would just love to have some of these.

And if you have a look on their web site and do want anything I think there just might be an opportunity for a NZHS Forum discount.
But that would be a bit out of my league and would require a local forum member who is familiar with these type of rifles to stand up !!

    Cheers

Ps not sure if this is where I should have put this ?

Looked at those M1 Carbines today too, they look pretty good - very tempting.

They've picked the M1 Carbines up for around $250 US then judging by their normal margins.

Well... they are a business not a charity.

You'll find they definitely aren't a charity if it doesn't work once you've handed over the cash or a spare.

sorry -i beg to differ .Ive always had prompt service if i had a probllem, including one new rifle which mr t himself when shown immediately told me to pick a new one and theys set it up for me.I was also given some free ammo for my troubles.worst service ive ever had was at H&F many year ago -the perpetrator a well known birdshooting identity.

Just wait til you get it and it turns out its not a gun or something. See what their after sales service is like.

I have always wanted an M1 Carbine for some inexplicable reason, but I'm not buying one from them.

They are handy little guns and historically the first assault rifle, though they were intended as SMG/Pistol replacements. I've looked at a 9mm modern variant a few times.

Re the Mosins, I assume GC has not managed to also open a secret supply line from mother Russia for 7.62x54R ammunition.

Out of interest, you're not having anything to do with them, so did you enter Christchurch GCHQ just for gun porn? (-:

I got an Inland off them. James at Christchurch picked out a nice one for me. I have been critical of Gun City many times in the past, but in this dealing it was painless and the customer service was good.

Yeah I'd have to say in the last year of dealing with the Chch store their service has improved. I got under-charged on a few items I went to go collect the other day. Read the receipt in the parking lot and it appeared I got over-charged, but in actual fact I was under-charged $40 - They said sorry for the inconvenience and didn't want me to pay the difference.

Those things were used so many places. A lot of police forces had them in their armouries too. Just SO handy.

They still use them in the Phillipines donít they?

It took a lot of questions to finally get the guy at the Wellington branch to admit their German helmets are actually Finnish . I donít want one but I saw a thread on another forum cautioning collectors against buying them and was wondering if they had made it out here.
