    Advice needed

I'm looking at purchasing a rifle overseas on Guns for Sale - Online Gun Auction - Buy Guns at GunBroker.com
Has anyone used this website for purchasing firearms before?
Or does anyone know how I could purchase a rifle from the US and get it to New Zealand?

    Any advice would be great!

    Thanks all,
    Shane

I don't know much on this at all but from what I have been told.. It is like Crawling thru barb wire.... It is easier to pay someone else to do it!!

And I also think you have to have a Licence to import Firearms or parts????

    Yeah, seems that way..
FFL Holder Network - International Firearms Transfer Agents at GunBroker.com
I'm thinking I could get it sent to an Australian FFL that is on their website list then to New Zealand?

Was just seeing if anybody knows of a person/business in NZ that will bring rifles into NZ for you.

I used these guys several times for complete rifles

    Simpson Ltd

BUT its not cheap, nor fast , they will ship direct to you here in NZ and arrange all the paperwork at the US end. I was buying AR's at the time so was worth it at the time they were 7k plus here. If its for something special its worth it but not for you common as mud garden variety Tikka

Greg, that's what I am wanting to know also.
E-mailed Hunting & Fishing today and got this reply..
Rifles not coming into NZ until ammo is available. Ammo not expected to be available this year, so will most probably be some time in 2014.

Last time I used Simpsons it was USD$500 for the export doco's so that makes quite a difference as to weither or not its worthwhile to import eh!

The biggest problem I see is having a rifle you can't reload for & no ammo available.

Also it will most likely cost you more than the rifle is worth to get it here, then down the track a bit the rifles will be available here for much less than you paid for it...

Importing works if it is for a rifle that isn't readily available here, like a speciality rifle, a TRGs, Barrett Mrad, DTA HTI etc, but warrantee issues can be a bitch....

"And I also think you have to have a Licence to import Firearms or parts???? "

You will probably need a US export licence and that is $400US, someone also has to do it at the US end, charge for that. IF someone has already done that for the rifle you may not.

If its a bolt action generally my AO said you dont really need a NZ customs import licence but he says its best to do one anyway just in case. He said customs can be a pain just cause they a) can be, b) usually clueless, I dont think it costs anything.

Also there is a police approved weapons list if the gun isnt on that, that might be an issue, ask your AO.
