    Ammunition: Norinco FMJ 7,62x39, bulk

Have about 3/4 of a crate of Norinco 7.62x39 which I can no longer use as my SKS is no longer legal.
Does anyone want the ammo? It is the steel cased stuff bi-metal copper wash stuff, not hollow or soft point.

I am thinking $10 per box, guessing I have 30-40 boxes left. (I would prefer to sell it in one go).

    Make me an offer.

    Palmerston North area.

@exegenisis So far as I can tell, the only real use for this stuff now, is for a reloader to buy it, pull the steel core projectiles, and put some sp/hp ones in instead.

Which means the value is in the primed case, and the powder.

I typically value powder @ 1 cent per grain, each case has approx 25 gn, ergo 25cents plus whatever you think for each primer and case.

This really sucks, mate, but there it is.

What are ‘they’ going to do - drive around in a defector van with big magnets to sniff out steel core ammo?

If I had any I’d be telling them. ‘Get stuffed’!

I pulled and cut a Norinco ,copper washed bullet in half, last week. Not a sign of a steel core, so I then drilled into the lead core. The softest lead ever encountered. A magnet is attracted to both the steel case and the outer 'copper' wash on the bullet itself. Conclusion is that the only iron present is in the casing. Try it...

Just tried it. Mine were steel. If in doubt, it's well worth pulling a round and cutting it open to check.

Shit...there was a steel sabot type rod in the centre of the lead? Holy hell. Maybe mine aren't Norinco then. They were sold as such and came in 20 rd paper wrapped bundles of...SKS ammo.

I suspect that chinese FMJ is a really mixed bag, some steel, some lead.

I also hope that the fucker with the magnet who is empowered to jail you for 5 years, is able to extract bullets in order to identify them properly. They all seem to be magnetic alright, but did you actually find a steel trace in the lead with a magnet?

Just got back from buy back - the officer in charge specifically said that the new ammunition law is stupidly/poorly worded ("written by a pencil pushed who doesn't know the are end of a firearm"), and that ball ammunition (what this is) is legal to own and use.
He is making a request to get this clarified as many other people asked him the same thing.

He said that the armour piercing stuff which is now prohibited has the specific penetration rods (steel and tungsten), not the copper jacketed mild steel ball ammunition.

In case anyone doubts - this bimetal core stuff is legally being sold by Gun City. Same as mine (except mine is FMJ not soft point).
