Yes but you can chuck coals in and also smoke in them.

Thanks for the suggestions. I am specifically looking for a Weber kettle-type, charcoal-fired bbq.

You know what's ironic? I must have taken about 5 of them to the tip over the years, when I was doing property maintenance for folk. Never considered taking one home.

Anyhow, if someone in near Palmy has one that isn't getting used, I'd be happy to yarn about it with them. Cheers.

Check out save barn or the warehouse, they often have the Chinese versions for next to nothing that you could try before committing the cash to a proper Weber.

I have the gas q and the charcoal kettle. Love them. Save up and buy a second hand weber kettle.

Had a Kettle in Aus., now a very happy Family Q owner/operator.
Both cooked/cook well, but different fuel.
The Chinese copy of the Kettle - haven't seen/heard anything about them, but should give you an idea of how the Kettle would go.

The webber charcoal bbqs are way better than the others
You’ll get a cheap one and you won’t like it you will find it a hassle and burn times crap
And go bugger this and buy a gas one
But If You haven’t tried a genuine webber it will give you a fulse repressive they are fantastic to cook on and easy to use with practice

If you get one do your self a favour and get a charcoal chimney for starting the coals so much easier than lighting them in the bbq it’s self

    Cheers

shame you not down here you could have my old charcoal one.kids got me one of those tall square gas ones from mitre 10.charcoal one uses between 3 to 5 kgs of charcoal each time cost is quite abit unless you make your own,gas I find much cheaper and the new one can cook a large family meal and some plus the smoke dish and water dish means that it doesn't dry out.can smoke and slow cook a chicken in it for over 6 hours without drying out.

The big lesson I learned is to use the quality charcoal briquettes. Ordinary charcoal was inadequate
