    Bayonet...

    OK. This will be interesting...

Here I have a Wilkinson made Lee Enfield bayonet to fit the SMLE-series rifles, this is a fairly early one at November 1910 (11 '10) birthing day (106 years young). Still has the hooked quillion, which is it's major claim to fame - and also takes it out of the 'just another LE Bayo' into the 'ooh - that's interesting' catagory.

These things are not easy to aquire with the hooked quillion intact, most of the early ones had a date with the armourer's hand saw and file as the hook was canned pre WW1 (1913). Bayo has the usual stampings, Crown, pattern, maker, date, inspections and bend test marking and the sold-out-of-service broad arrow stamping. I have seen them go for from $700-$800 bare bayo at some of the militaria auctions, to well north of $1400 on web auction sites complete as this one is.

Blade is in good condition, good patina, a minor amount of pitting - I have seen a lot worse condition on blades 50 years younger...

Comes with a relatively early scabbard which is showing it's age and a WW2-era webbing frog.

Note, on the final photo showing both sides of the 'hook' there is no sign of the hook being welded back on or the resulting forgery weld being ground down and cold blued. You can't make that patina, period. This thing is legit - money back when the bayo is returned if not satisfied...

May trade for something that interests me, or we can start the asking at an even $1K.

To be fair I'm not really sure. Maayybe some oddball PH Mauser type bits I need, or FN30-11 bits? Ha ha - Ha.

To be fair, you might have something that I don't know I'm needing, but seriously speaks to the magpie in me...
