    Blank .45 muzzel loading barrel

    Hi, Now for those who want to play at being Jedediah Smith here is a black powder barrel. .45 cal, six grove cut rifling .010" deep with a twist of 1-48". The bore has been lapped and has a slight taper, .451" at breech end, .450" at muzzle end with grove depth being .471". This is for patched round ball shooting or a mine ball/bullet and each end has been machined true to the bore for alignment. By the way its 27" long and stock is 12/15 steel and only asking $280 for all this hard work, well 2 1/2 weeks to make and 1/2 a dozen homebrews.

    NO Marty, The twist rate is to slow for a cartridge rifle and also the 12/15 steel !' round stock is only ok for black powder muzzle loading. Any cartridge barrel must be made of 4140 moly steel because of cartridge loads can be a nitro load for an elephant. . And you know what happens when you load a muzzle loader with nitro powder!!,
    Well I have just got in 4x .875mm lengths of 4140 and how hard is it getting to get barrels out there now, does True Flite make .45 cal barrels, that would be the way to go if you want top of the range tack driver. My Sharps is coming good, Sunday at the range.

    OK guys, it`s 1 inch round stock and a bit over 4-1/2lbs. This machined up well in this grade of steel, normally b/p barrels are made of 12L14 grade steel but the 12/15 is a bit up from that.

    Bump is just something to post as as soon as there’s a post it goes back to the top of the pile
    So means bumping it up to the top of the pile/page

    True Flite don't do chrome molly barrels. Or at least they didn't when I last asked

    @Marty Henry
    I'm getting two 4140 chrome molly barrels made by Vulan soon for a project I have just started.

    If you are after a chrome molly 45-70 barrel I can bump my order up to three.
    And yes they will get made ( I know John well ) but no they won't be as cheap as @homebrew.357

    Ok, Ok, Thanks Rambo now I know, but I thought you had to put a juicy bit about it for more interest. Akaroa, yes they are only making S/Steel barrels, I was asking for a bit of 416R from them for a 45-70 barrel myself.
