British Commando Silenced De Lisle Carbine .45ACP

British Commando Silenced De Lisle Carbine .45ACP

    Background:
Designed by William De Lisle. The De Lisle carbine was used by the British Commandos and special forces in WW2 and again in the Korean war for special night operations where stealth was the key. It was made in very ltd numbers; 129 were produced during the period of 1942 to 1945. The baffled suppressor, 2 inches in diameter, went all the way from the back of the barrel to well beyond the muzzle providing a very large volume of space to contain the gases produced by firing. Because the cartridge was subsonic, the carbine was extremely quiet, possibly one of the quietest guns ever made. Converted from .303 Lee-Enfield to 45ACP by modifying the receiver, altering the bolt/bolt head, replacing the barrel with a modified Thompson submachine gun barrel. The magazine assembly was modified to fit a M1911 magazine. 3 factories were involved with building the De Lisles. Since each specimen is virtually a "One off custom fitted rifle", many differences will be seen in original individual guns. While the De Lisle didn't account for large numbers of physical causalities the psychological effect on the enemy was well worth the effort. They were extremely effective in terrorizing and harassing enemy troops.

    Details:
This is a very nice example of a replica De Lisle built on a Lithgow .303 rifle.

The band on the receiver is marked:
    MA
    LITHGOW
    S.M.L.E.
    111 *
    1941

Barrel is clean and shiny. Woodwork is in really good nick and has been refurbished at some stage. Front sight is windage adjustable and rear sight is adjustable for elevation. Magazine well has had a plate made for it to fill in the opening of the original .303 magazine and now nicely holds Colt 1911 magazines. The factory magazine release is still utilized. Rifle has had a weaver rail fitted so you can put on your reflex/red dot/scope. Suppressor is of a steel construction and is fixed to the barrel by a nut at the receiver end. Rifle comes with two Colt 1911 seven round magazines. Very quiet, when fired it results in a "clunk" noise.

Can provide larger pictures on request.
