    I always cringe when I read of people pulling /towing like that of a tow ball. They aren't designed for that sort of loading and it isn't uncommon for them to snap off and become projectiles.
    A far better and safer option is to remove the tow ball and use a rated shackle through the tow bar tongue.

    I've seen one buried in a roll cage bar (one truck yanking another back out of a hole). Pretty sobering, that would make a mess of your melon

    Tie it around the tow bar and lock it on the ball, weight is on the bar, all went well, I understand you concern
