    It's for a buddy of mine, about to get his license. I've tried talking him out of it, and towards a 10/22 or some form of AR .22, but he's dead set on one

    I've got one of these and it is accurate and reliable. Agree, a lot of things associated with Chiappa are garbage, but these are made in Romania by a factory that makes proper AK's.

    might be ok then, their lever actions are truly awful and their combo shotgun looks like its made out of tin cans

    What @Beavis said, the Chiappa RAK-22s are made in the Nova Modul factory in Cugir Romania. Same dudes that make the WASR pattern rifles.

    The Ranger AK-22s are made in the Tula factory in Russia, and a very well made for the money.
