    Climbing harness.

Hi everyone, I have a steep bank that needs planting out etc and will need a harness to do it.....

Does anyone have a harness to rent?

Not really after a fall arrest type harness, as that will be pretty uncomfortable after a few hours.

The poor sap doing the planting is not worried if it is out of test, the bank is only 4m high and a soft-ish landing... Just not rotten please.

I need this ASAP, will be trying Kennards etc if I cant find one local.

Please PM me if you can help.

    Cheers, 40mm

proper abseil harness is the most comfortable. could you use a ladder laid up the bank or suspended from the top otherwise just make a bosuns chair .

I have a sport climing harness which is actually pretty comfy on abseil. Also all the self-belay gear. Not for rent unless my ass is in it.

Fall arrest and fall restraint are two differen't things. a full chest rig could be better, despite lack of comfort, especially if there's a chance he could go sideways /upside down. Which sounds possible. Does this poor sap know what he's doing?? Or are we soon to get another hike in ACC levies...

Bos chair as above, or wide strops made into a "rescue" harness.
Or hydroseed the thing and be done.

@berg243 A ladder is my last resort, but I have already been offered a harness and all the gear. Thanks @terryf @mimms2, hydroseed was the original plan. I want to give the bank the best chance of surviving so want to get some decent plants/roots into it. And dont worry about the levies, he is a little experienced (scouts a few decades ago)

    Should be fun times....

Yeah. First one shown there. Rescue harness. Tuck a bight into the front of your trou, wrap through and around thighs, collect the legs of the bight then a few laps around the waist. Bina through waist and top of bight makes for comfiest.
Wouldn't sit in one all day and a proper fall will pinch the legs (cutting blood flow through femural) So generally only used for short rescue hauls. Can also put arms in a crossed tape loop (butterfly wings) to make chest harness.and tie it in (if unconscious etc)

a bank on a 4:1 grade will hold itself. any steeper than that and it'll slip sooner or later.

deer netting laid along the bank and pegged down with short bits of rebar will help hold the bank or even better if you can source it is old trawl net.
