    Coach gun

Spanish coach gun. Has been shortened to 20.5" barrels, clean bores with no pitting, almost all original blueing.

    $300 ono

Located Auckland but can deliver on the way to taupo tomorrow

had a quick google to find out exactly what a coach gun is, and interestingly bumped into the connection it has with the phrase 'riding shotgun'. 'shotgun messengers' guarded the coaches sitting beside the coachman and from there it was derived. had no idea...

Might make a good pig gun with slugs. Poor man's double rifle.

Was that saddle made by Warren Wright? Looks very similar to mine.

Yeah I had mine made about the same time. Its a long way from home as Warren was based in Tauranga or Ngaruawahia depending on the shape of the stamp on it. Great saddles never wear them out.

Yeap, had it made when he was shepherding at Limestone Downs, real saddle thats done a lot of real work, I remember seeing dad pull a cow out of a swamp with it on his old Half-clyde stock horse, Star, mum had a "show saddle" at the time and was into barrel racing and I can still remember Dad telling me at the time "and THAT is the difference between a work saddle and a show saddle, and the difference between a work horse and a show horse"
He rode for work everyday, as far back as I can remember, even after quadbikes etc started to become the norm, did some roping events and used to muster Kaimanawa horses with his buddies as a bit of a sideline, they would break the good ones to sell as stock horses.
Recent(ish) years since the late 90s and the move down south hes done a bit on contract mustering but the riding for work has tapered off as hes got older, I was shocked to learn how much these saddles actually cost to have made but I have no doubt hes had his moneys worth out of it many times over!

sorry for the thread hijack @baronPolarbear !! free bump!

Did you end up getting it re blued and re oiled the stock?

I like double barrels. Always keep an eye out at sai when I get around to window shopping. Lots of cool old stuff on their racks.
