    F&P Smart Drives

The makings of an MW613 and MW513.
Assume the computers are borked. (free if you want em)
1 of 2 drain pumps works.

One is 32pole, haven't dismantled the other yet.

These are common conversions for wind turbines, water wheels etc. Basically a large permanent magnet alternator. Typically rewired to 3phase, then rectified to a charge controller - battery bank, I've seen designs up to 1000W)
These are used by "powerspout" for their generator $y$tem$.

Otherwise I'm stacking em for when I get inspired to build a VAWT, or waterwheel, and the rest to the scrappy.

Offers at this point. Can drop off Whangarei - Auckland area
    timattalon and RUMPY like this.

Unrelated, but reminds me of a story from when I was a young fella:

3 under 6 and the washing machine under siege full time, bit the bullet and bought one of the first ever "smart" washing machines, the forerunner to the F&P Gentile Annie, the National Microprocessor, a thousand dollar machine at the time - thing was endlessly fucking out and doing weird stuff and the tech guys would come out, do stuff and claim it was all good, nek minute.......the supplier just wouldn't replace the thing. The last fix they tried (after telling us it was because we used it too much!) was stuffing glad wrap behind the processor board. Then they quit coming out to fix it, blaming us for "overusing it".

I had had 6 months of dramas that just went on and on, friends helping to get washes done all the time. Tried to make contact at local Fisher and Paykel management level about it, they would never return calls. One day the wife rings me at work and tells me "its done it again". Had a bloody nuff!! went straight home on the spot, taking a pallet with me......... strapped it on the pallet, wrapped it in cardboard and sent it to be delivered to the office of the Fisher and Paykel general manager of New Zealand in Auckland. (from Dunedin) Cost me a couple of hundred to do it, but I wanted it delivered to his office and parked in front of his desk and the transport operator knowing what the go was, made sure it happened!

I get a phone call a few days later wanting to know why some random bloke sent him a washing machine? A few days later I had a brand new machine and an apology from local management. Had already bought a battered F&P 300 manual machine and immediately sold the new replacement. That battered old 300 gave a decade of faithful service.

Have NEVER touched anything to do with Fisher and Paykel ever again.

Same crowd do the hand over heart NZ claim, but they fucked over a small NZ town to shift operations to Mexico, that didn't go as they planned, so they relocated again to Thailand. Fucking corporates claim national identity but they lie, just want 3rd world slave labour and the money in your wallet.

Sorry @mimms2 your post prodded an old memory!

For those wondering about the generator conversion here's a short video I found. I have one half made, have rewired it just have to mount it up and then all the technical stuff with voltage limiters, charge relays, lots of batteries etc need to be sorted. Mine is a long term project.

    Classic!

We built a new house about six years ago and being a patriotic kiwi I went with the top F&P appliances. I knew none were being made here but at least they still employ kiwis in design and whatnot!

Had a dishwasher part go on me (spray arm) during lockdown. Out of warranty period - no matter, they posted me a new one for free. No fuss. Awesome.

My folks had a dishwasher about 6 years old, and it started playing up. I rang F&P, spoke to a nice kiwi girl who said it's well outside of the warranty window... but they will pay for it to be fixed (=free) as an act of good faith to my pensioner parents. Awesome x 2.

So I'd have no hesitation recommending F&P based on customer service alone.

By the way, my boss spent big money on Asko appliances and has had all sorts of dramas...reckons he'd never do it again.

Yeah. F&P are shit and I wouldn't recomend them at all.
The original one I had (613) computer sucked the kumara. Salvaged the smaller one from the tip. Bypassed sensors, hacked the computer wiring over. Did 2 loads and shat again. Not worth any more of my time.
Have a simpson I got off a member here. Threw a few hundy buck parts at it and goes strong. There's about 3 parts to it and they're all metal.
Although I found out today the reverse winding/contacts are up to fuck, so it might get manualised.

F&P gas hob, made in italy.
2 out of 5 burners would go out if left on simmer. 3 visits before it was repaired properly.

Appliance repairs is my day job and you could say all of the above about most brands out there.

Have a F&P dishwasher here that is about 3.5 years old and the cutlery basket has just fallen apart at the bottom causing all the cutlery to pass through and tangle up in the door and spray boom. Called them up about it and told it was $35 plus shipping for a new part and they weren't interested in replacing it at their cost. Jumped on FB to message them about it and got the same story until I told them that 3.5 years was not what I considered a reasonable time for a dishwasher to last nor was it made of reasonable quality and that it was currently not fit for purpose. Had to push them on it a bit and a few days later they told me as a one off they would supply it for me for free as a "gesture of goodwill", a couple of weeks later and I still don't have the part. Useless.

Will be the last F&P machine I ever buy.

I had to tutu with either the washing machine or dishwasher, can't remember which, because it wasn't draining. Looking up the pumps, it seems they all use the same parts anyway with proprietary computers being the only real difference, is this the case?

Which brand/s (if any) would you recommend? I'll settle for 'least bad' ...

miele is the best but you pay more. and parts are expensive but that to be expected when the product is but some people dont understand that. @Kopua Cowboy alot of dishwashers are made in the same factories around the world. but they dont all come from the same place. many many brands coming from a handful of factories. the smartdrive/washsmart etc machines are still one offs they dont get made for other brands. We dont service F&P wnty any more but i would still have smartdrive over anything else.

we sell other brands cutlery baskets for $20 and they are far better. they break out the bottom because you drop knifes in them.

Interesting. I pulled the other one down and the coils say "whirlpool" on them...
Also 36 pole, if anyone's buying...

How many whirlpool/maytag gearboxes have you replaced?

Would you have a selector spinny-bit for same? The wash cycle thing.
