Excellent lights - normally sell instantly. Gadgetman does a 10 minute tweak to these lights which boosts them to 775 meter range. Best with Panasonic 3100/3400 batts.

Which new Maxtoch did you buy - M24 or 2X?

Whats the process? chuck the cree chip in some petrol for an hour or two and then carefully peel off? do you put anything over the cree chip after?

Yes the dedomed leds last very well.

Petrol method is not so reliable. Applying small amount of heat is better - gadgetman does them by the dozen for people and has I think pretty much 100% success.

What sort of decrease in beam spread will the dedomed torch have over a standard domed torch @mudgripz?

Dedoming in this torch means tighter central hotspot, tint change towards lemon halogen (better for cutting through mist etc), slightly less lumens, but more than double the lux (hotspot intensity).

Retains good spill around hotspot so v good for scanning paddocks etc for hundeds of meters - they are not pencil beam lights.
