There are some in a cat form, just use the five round clips rather than 8.

The only thing that puts a Garand into the MSSA class is the bayonet lug. The Garand is only capable of firing with a maximum of 7 rounds in the magazine plus one in the chamber. Although the clip holds 8 rounds, you can only close the bolt by stripping the top round into the chamber. You cannot push the top round down to allow the bolt to close over it. This feature makes the Garand no different to any A category semi-auto rifle that has a 7 round magazine and the 8th round in the chamber. Cut the bayonet lug off and it is A category.

Depends on the arms officer. I was told by one there is no such thing as an A cat Garand. Yet others say there can be. So who knows.

It is not up to the Arms Officer. It is based on the definition in the Arms Act, and the rules that apply to all other A category semi-autos. You don't need to ask your AO (many of them would tell you a single barrel shotgun was E cat just to cover their lack of knowledge of the provisions of the Arms Act), just have a Firearms License, a knowledge of the legal provisions, and you can put your non-bayonet lug Garand in your A cat security cupboard.
