Idea of value M1917 30-06 winchester

    Evening all,

Had one or five impulse purchases lately and the spare cash supply is screaming and something has to give.

So heres a rifle I wish to move on, open to offers or ideas of value? Haven't seen any for sale so really need some members input on what would be a fair price.

Barrel has lots of meat at the chamber end and worn rifling at the muzzle end, dark but still there.

Will also consider a swap for a decent mosin

It sounds like the barrel is knackered but the action is a very good basis for a custom rifle. Somewhere in the $250 region would be about right.

Cheers man, i appreciate the input and fair point on the barrel. I will do a group over the next few days and if it doesn't shoot I will drop the price considerably.

In that condition, to be realistic, I don't think you would get much more than a .303 in a similar state, and the .30/06 chambering is a mark against it for someone who wants a cheap rifle. .30-06's don't sell well. I havn't heard of anyone making a custom rifle on a 1917 Enfield for years.
I think if someone offered you $200 you should take it and then drive overnight to Marton and change your name.

This is my .30-06 long-range rifle I built about 5 years ago. It started life as a bog standard M17 till I customized the action, fitted a new barrel, Timney trigger, Boyds stock, 20 MOA base, and 6-24x50 Sightron scope. It does .5 MOA groups with my handloads.

I Paid $500 for a sporterised M1917 but it did have a brand new unfired Criterion barrel on it. Sorry to say but what you have won't bring you much at all.
