    Importing a 9rnd E-cat magazine?

    Hi all,
    yes another typical import question...

Q: Can you import an E-cat magazine with an E-cat licence, even if you don't have an E-car firearm for it?

I.e. does the import permit need to be linked to your licence only?
    ...I assume so.
The intention here is to get a mate to import it who has an E-cat licence (mine is in progress), and when it arrives I will mod it to 7rnd for an A-cat rifle of mine.

Yeh, I searched the police website and found the import form and a guide on importing parts...
so just need to fill out the form, write a reason why the parts should be imported etc...
just was not sure if it needs to be linked to a specific endorsed firearm, but nothing on the form for that...

Another thought, if I ask the overseas person to fit a block inside the magazine to restrict capacity to <7 rnds, would this be sufficient to import without a permit?

or is that just asking for trouble.

Thing is this stuff isn't written in the legislation. So how can anyone know the real answers?
Arms code is written by police but isn't law because its not legislation, which adds more confusion.

Um, what cal and rifle? Can you get a pump or bolt crossover for it for the application (as long as you have the specific host to pull out for show and tell). Once it's here and a-cat no problem.

    thanks guys,
its for a semi auto Valmet .308
so don't wont to be illegal, but these are rare as hens teeth around the world, once its here I can make it 7 rnd, but just need to get it here...

checking if my mate with an E-cat can help, but not sure if he has time to get to the AO down town for the permit...

No. Because it would still appear to hold more than 7 rounds.

Yes. But it depends on your AO.

They can appear to hold up to 10 rounds while still being A cat.

Ah, that is the point of the MSSA mag appearance clause wasn't it? A magazine with the appearance of containing more than 7-rounds is considered to be an MSSA?

I can see your issue with the Valmet mag, there ain't nothing else that uses those.

It increased to a 10 round appearance limit with the pistol grip law change.

iii) a magazine (other than one designed to hold 0.22-inch rimfire cartridges) that—
    (A) is capable of holding more than 7 cartridges; or
    (B) is detachable, and by its appearance indicates that it is capable of holding more than 10 cartridges:
