Lightbulb L42A1 clone bits, 308 target barrel, 308 Enfield magazine, No4 Wood, cheek piece

    Gday,

I want to use an old Enfield action for an L42 clone.

After an old 308 barrel or an ex rem heavy barrel 30 cal.

Need an Enfield 308 magazine from an ishapore or similar and some No4 Wood work Fore end bottom and top with barrel band swivel.

Also after a stock with a wooden cheek riser,

    Cheers. band

What's involved with the bolthead and extractor in this conversion? Been thinking about doing the same as it's cheaper to feed than .303, I guess the hardest bit to find will be the magazine.

Mags are findable ex the UK, there are drawings available for the extractor. Bolt head is the same as the .303 only proofed for the higher load of the .308/7.62 round. I looked seriously at doing this, but honestly a Remington in a HS Precision stock does the same job better, cheaper and with far less set up hassles.

Yes, call me a heathen, but the Lee Enfield's bedding system just doesn't line them up to make this a reliable conversion - any weaknesses in the foreend 'draws' area will show up under the higher recoil forces of the .308/7.62 round and replacement parts aren't easy to source if you do pop something...
