I’ve got a mate that does Manuka/Kanuka firewood on a commercial scale up here in the Manawatu. It’s a bit outside your specified range of 150km, it’s more like 170km depending on where in Wellington you are.

If that’s something you’d contemplate, give me a PM and I’ll text you his number.

It's a bit like dog bones really. remember when you used to get them free from the butcher ? then they realised that they could charge for them and now you have to pay. Same with Manuka, could barely give the crap away a few years ago ( ok quite a few years ago), then people decided it was good for smoking fish and the honey buzz came along and now people are planting hillsides with it. My old mans place in Titiraingi was covered in it, and down here it seems a bit thinner on the ground. I'm actually planting a bit for firewood on my tiny place.

I wont be using too much manuka/kanuka next winter as I have to split my way through this stack of puriri that grows at the rare of a quad bike trailer a day...probably be looking for a new wood fire after that.
