    Mauser 8mm06

    Hi Folks

BRNO Mauser in 8mm06 an interesting cartridge that performs pretty similar to the 30 06 with perhaps a bit more punch at close range.

Heres a bit of a rundown from our favourite know all......

    https://www.ballisticstudies.com/Knowledgebase/8mm-06.html

It comes with a set of FL Redding dies and the remaining box of 175g gr sierra projectiles (about 80 or so).

It also comes with a sporterised wood stock that needs a bit of filing to fit the action in, mostly around the trigger.

The black stock is some sort of custom job with a cheek pad on the right hand side for a left hander to shoot, I had no issues shooting it right handed.

I bought this rifle off @Brian a few months ago with the intention of having a bit of a project rifle to do up or do a custom Mauser build.

I have since moved on to other projects and so this will just end up sitting in my safe.

It seems to have some sort of aftermarket trigger that is actually quite pleasant to shoot albeit a little heavy. The bolt handle modification has been done as well as scope bases mounted.

I put a few mid weight loads of 2208 through it and it shot pretty good, certainly minute of goat at 100m or so. I never shot any groups at the range or did any load development but the barrel looks shiny and in reasonable nick.

I contacted brownells about getting an unfininshed walnut stock and they could get one to NZ for about $180-$200, they also had prefit mauser barrels in a variety of calibres for $98 usd.

    Or

    This could be an option.....?

Or use it as is for a good bush bashing gun with plenty of punch.

All this and more (not actually) for $300

Well the hot sauce bottle could be included in negotiations, could be keen on a swap for a worcestershire sauce bottle in similar condition

I would if i was you, the price is really sharp, its easy to reload for cos you wont find factory food, and if you want later youve got an action to die for to rebarrel that has the most widely used bolt head size so youve got heaps of cals to choose from.
It would be nice to know if it is a rechambered 7.92x57 or actual factory 8x63 as ive always thought it a wildcat like the 35 Whelan.

I would think its a re-cut chamber - I know my current variation is a military barrel screwed to a Parker Hale action and re chambered.

This is stamped on the the side of the barrel if it helps.

Some sort of aftermarket barrel? The bluing is a different colour to the action, more of a greyish colour than your regular blue.
