When you say 2x do you mean you have two of these, or two red beams? Is it a cover that goes on the standard torch? What's the red beam like to use on critters?

It's a Maxtoch Shooter 2X that is the name/model of the torch, one beam, which is Red, I havn't used it on Game/Critters but the Red beam is meant not to disturb them as much as a White beam, the Shooter 2X White beam is one of the best torches out & the Red beam is rated at 750m .

Thats all I can tell you really !

I have two of these torches, they are my go to. Good for lighting up eyes, but don't expect the same illumination as you would get with a white LED, so can make the type of critter you're looking at difficult to assess at longer distances (i.e. possum vs. cat). Obviously there are safety implications, but this will depend on where/what you are shooting. The beam is very tight. I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing. Not totally convinced whether animals are less bothered by red light, or not, but certainly no worse than white light. On balance, you do probably get away with a little more. A couple of other good points is that you don't lose your night vision with these torches, and you get much less glare in the scope from reflected light (maybe due to narrow beam?). I'd go with a red LED for these reasons alone.

This can be converted to white LED. I know a bloke that can do it.

There are only three types of people in this world. Those that can count, and those that can't!

Really, that is amazing, I didn't know that, but I think it has a certain job as a Red beam !

I have one of these that I wanted to convert to a white beam, but Maxtoch told me it couldn’t be done as although they look similar the internal structure is different.

Really only wanted to change it as my son uses a red dot sight on his bow, and he struggles to see the dot when an animal is illuminated by the red light.

I’m not very experienced at spotlighting, but from using this I would say if the animal has had a bad experience with a spotlight before then they will run no matter what colour the beam. I have had deer flee instantly the beam came on, and others trot towards it to see what it was.
