Medical Stuff: Tourniquets CAT Gen6 and TMT

I will be putting up five posts tonight for First aid kit components. See my other threads.

Two Gen 6 CAT tourniquets, these are the previous generation (Gen 7 is current), these tourniquets have never been used they have been in kits for a few years.

The two older Gen CAT tourniquets have been practiced with are beyond their useful lifespan.

The Combat Medical Tourniquets are all brand new in packaging, these were added to the list of CoTCCC approved tourniquets a couple of months ago.

What's the difference between the Gen 6 and the TMT @Wollywog ?

Do you have pouches for them to be put on a belt?

The Gen 6 CAT’s were produced by North American Rescue (2012ish – 2017ish), it is now replaced by the Gen 7 CAT. They are still CoTCCC approved until the reach the end of their lifespan. I do not have any spare pouches for them however they are the most common type of tourniquet, so there are plenty of accessories available.

The TMT has only recently been approved by the CoTCCC as such they now recognised as being among the top tier of proven effective tourniquets. However as they are new, there is not a lot of accessories available for them yet.

If you do a first aid course that includes tourniquets, they will most likely be using CAT’s. Paramedics and Defence personnel will all recognise and know how to use CAT’s.

I have chosen to use CAT’s as they are more common, and other people are more likely to know what they are and how to use them. The TMT’s however should be equally effective.
