Mercator folding knife, or just a replacement spring for mine

    Hi Guys,

My everyday knife has been a Mercator folder for many years and it recently broke a piece of spring steel inside that helps to hold tension on the lock to lock it open. Does anyone know if the springs are available? If not where is the best place to buy a new whole knife?

    Cheers

Farmlands sells them for $62 and also the fake Mercators for $13.
TradeMe is full of them too, fake and real.
    Hope that helps

Wonder if its worth picking up a fake and just using the spring out of it?

If it's a fake how good will the spring be.

Life's funny. Back in the late '60's we used to buy Mercators for a couple of bucks and
thought they were dirt cheap & probably nasty as well. Now they cost $62 and there's
    an industry producing fakes.

The real ones still probably only cost under a dollar to make!

mmmm undoing the rivets and redoing them would be the PITA but agree maybe buying a fake one for the spring would be an idea.

pay your $60 and buy a new one - trying to open the old one up successfully with give you more than 60 bucks worth of grief. BTDT

I kinda lost faith in my Mercator as I had two springs go in quick succession with hardly any use first one they replaced straight away second one I had to talk them into giving me another.

Mitre 10 Mega was last place I saw one.

I'd just go for the fake $15. I mean, how much better can the steel be in a cheap $60 knife? It's anyway just a backup for your main knife with a decent handle.

I bought the real Mc Coy on eBay a few years back for about $30 out of the US.
