    Mounting screws for rail

Soooo... the screws I put on into my weaver rail are f$cked (stupidly soft, threaded with less than 20 torque). Will likely need to drill them out.

Where would be the best place to pick more up? Jaycar?

Tempted to just buy Talley rings as the current tolerances or “slop” with the weaver set up look to be a bit to much for a Rem Mag set up. (Rail doesn’t sit 100% flush on action, rings sit OK on rail)

Going to blow my budget out a bit... but If you have a spare set Tally (equivalent) in 30mm for Rem 700, HMU.

    Cheers.

Top tip, don’t thread lock your bases. Apparently that leads to an initial over torque and then the fuckers set lol. Go me!

any decent fastener shop such as "blacks fasteners" . anything from jaycar would be low tensile. even our local mitre10 has a pretty good selection of good quality small screws available in small packets in the specialist fittings drawers.

Pretty rare to find a rail that will sit 100% flush on the reciever, bed it with some epoxy

Most base screws are either 6x48 (most common), 8x40, or 10x32, none of which are normally available from fastener suppliers in NZ. Talk to your local gunsmith, or order them through Brownells. Torx are not needed, ordinary slotted head screws are perfectly good. I have a selection if you get stuck.

Thanks team, actually went to HF of all places and the lads there had some spares. My weaver rail is a peace of crap... wouldn’t come close to flush (to my fussy eyes) even after taking a file to it. Nothing a bit of JB weld epoxy won’t fix hopefully.
