Thread: Red dot scope

Looking to change things around a little, most of my 22 shooting at the moment is possums he dogs have treed. Wanting to change from the usual 3-9*40 to a red dot to get the buggers as they move up the trunks before they can find cover in the thick canopy. Anyone got s cheap red dot lying around? Never used red dots before so some ideas could be handy from those in the know

Got a vortex sparc on a ruger 10/22, rate it highly small bright dot without ghossting excellent with a barrel mounted spotlight at night. Dont have the possums but rabbits to 80 yards are easy. Some cheap ones are under $50 they may be ok but ive seen some with orangie brown dots that are more teardrop shaped.

Had a konus atomic on a 44mag and the Mrs has a nikko on her 7,62x39 they are ok. On the highest level they can have a slight halo around the dot. But had an EO Tech that did the same and that wasn't cheap.

Just make sure it's a good red-dot, otherwise the dot will wash out when you're spotlighting the possum

Use the shotgun for the possums

@FatLabrador can't use the shotgun as its I'm on doc land occasionally, shouldn't have the 22 either but running subs at least it doesn't disturb anyone. Also the fact I don't have a shotgun.... Hole in the gun safe that's let to be filled

O so Tempting.... When I get a shotgun I'll want to spend a lot more than I do on a red dot

You can get a half decent pump action for $300. Don't go cheap on a semi auto or you will regret it.

Get a old single shotty for 80 then when u get a good shotty (weatherby SA 08) then u can modify the old single shot for shits n giggle, chop it down use cut shells
