    Sako Quad 17HMR barrel

I know my chances are pretty slim, but.... If anyone has (or knows someone who has) a Sako Quad 17HMR barrel available for sale, I'm on the look out for one. Preference would be a varmint contour barrel, but beggars can't be choosers...

    Cheers!

Did you have your .22 caliber trueflite barrel made up yourself?
    Curious about the cost.
Could be interested in dealing my .17 HMR barrel and put that towards a .22 barrel.

It’s varmint weight, threaded and probably done 400-450 rounds.
.22 would probably now suit my situation more than the HMR.

Gidday, Tony Titheridge did the barrel for me. Was about $300 to chamber and machine the barrel on top of the cost of the barrel (in this case an Ultra Match which was $600). I considered getting a Lilja barrel in from the States, which at the current exchange rate would be in the vicinity of $850 plus export costs (if you can find someone with an import permit and an exporter in the States)

I'd be keen to buy your barrel if you do decide to make a change. What thread is it? Supressor? Any idea on value?

Bugger, thatís a bit more than I thought it might have been.
This HMR barrel is factory threaded 1/2-20 UNF.
    No suppressor.
    Bluing is as new.
No idea on value, Iíll look into it though and PM you.

Or you could try import a Lilja barrel or 3 through Pricing for Australia & New Zealand | BORDERVIEW | International Firearm Logistics

Gun city also has an SR22 heavy barrel for $200 something

my 2c @The Claw . . . if its for hunting, i would stick with an original Sako Quad sporter barrel in .17hmr

when i went lookn for another barrel it had to be a varmint profile in my mind, it wouldnt look right otherwise on my RANGE model . . . but as luck would have it a sporter barrel came up on TM for a good price.

both my sporter barrels are just as accurate as the heavy ones i have tried and a lot easier to carry, balance is still good . . . the look i got used to, in the long run results matter more.

this morning i checked the zero of my HMR at 107 yards before walking . . . a nice 6mm 2 shot group dead centre in a 15mm square, its about what i expect and get unless its my fault.

Hey @rossi.45 yes you are right regarding the barrel contour. Basically I'll take what I can find at the moment - probably can't afford to be too fussy!

As a side note, I'm considering getting a Boyds stock for my Quad to use mainly with my 22LR barrel, at this stage a Pro Varmint. Wanting it for prone and bench shooting/plinking. Did you ever pillar and/or bed your Boyds stock?

i dont know if i was lucky with the Boyds thumbhole stock . . . i bolted the action in straight out of the box with a new DIP metal trigger guard & weaver rail adapter . . . shot as good as before, felt much better than the original plastic stock . . . pissed i mucked about getting another one before the price rise.

    Sorry Claw,

I just got some news that will change my financial situation for the next few months.
I’m not in a position to start any projects, I’ll hang onto the barrel and keep it a complete rifle.

Sorry for the false start there.
