    Savage 99. 308 family

I'm looking for a Savage 99 in probably 308. Barrel can be stuffed and not too worried about the wood work either as long as the action is tight, has the rotary mag, and is not a conversation from a 250 or 300 savage.
I am looking to re-barrel to 358win with an 18-20 barrel.
Nb have looked at the BLR that's available in 358 but I'm a 99 fan.

One of those is on my bucket list. One day when I have some safe space.

as Cheap as practical of course.
Lets see, A couple of months back 3 where on TM ranging from $??550 to $900 i think.
One indicated it may have been re-chambered from 300 Sav to 308 which I would be concerned about.

Guncity has one for $799, bluing all gone, looks like some rust pitting around the bottom of the action. (Sweat damage from carrying it??) Re finished blond beech stock.
A nice looking one on FaceBook for $650. Stock looks very nice but probably adds a bit of weight. (They are not a light rifle to start with.)

I was hopping to stay under $600, then add a barrel (TF or Hardy), Hardy Gen V (need to soften the 358 in a short and lightish rifle), Nikon 1-4 x24 scope.
then load a mix of light 358 pistol projectiles for goats over trailboss and some Sierria 225gr game kings for pigs etc.

I have one in 308, cut down to legal length and running 150gr cast hollow points subsonic through a DPT. Great fun!

was sort of keen on getting a 358win but know the 300 Savage would do all I want.

had the experience earlier this year taking my heavy 243 bolt action (4-16x scope) on an unexpected pig culling exercise. I did get 3, a good bore at 15 mtr running away, a large sow head on at 10 mtr and another side on through rushes, All running.
it just reinforced for me previous experiences with a 243 sav 99 and goats at 5-10 mtrs in scrub with a low power scope that has a heavy post and rail or German #4 type reticale. awesome combination for fast action shooting but hard to do much better than 1.5" groups at 100.
