Seeking rare rifle (WTB Lee Enfield No1 MkIII)

    Hi all,

I am seeking a Lee Enfield No1 MkIII* in original condition. Someone must have one or know of one that someone would be willing to sell to a collector. This rifle will be looked after and kept in original state. This was the type of firearm my Great Grandfather used in Gallipoli in 1915.
    Hope you can all help.

Hmmmmmmmmmm. You are going to have to be a lot more specific about what YOU mean by "Original condition."

Firstly, fully wooded #1 Mk 3's are not rare and there are several for sale on Trademe at the Moment. Here is a link to a nice example which has been converted to a target rifle.

1916 Lee Enfield SMLE Full Wooded 303 Target Rifle | Trade Me

    Others are listed.

Secondly, if you mean "Original" as in as having just left the factory, fat chance.
The nearest you will approach that will be a battle used example which has been refurbished , probably by our Ozzie arsenal friends.

Even then, it will be "battle scared " and if not, it will have been a total "RTF" (Returned to factory) rebuild whicjh means that it is not original.

I suggest that you lower your sights and seek a fully wooded example in better condition, but expect to pay >$600.

Those proudly showing their war wounds, are less.

It was a confusion of ideas between him and one of the lions he was hunting in Kenya that had caused A. B. Spottsworth to make the obituary column. He thought the lion was dead, and the lion thought it wasn't.

OK. More specifically. A fully wooded version with sights still attached. Not something that has been cut down, either stock or barrel.
Yes I have been looking on trade me. But thought I would try here. Some "older" folk may have them for sale, but don't know how to use trade me.

I don't mind if it has been used. Whether in service or not.

The simple description for that is "non sporterised," or "fully wooded." Not many fully wooded varieties around with scopes unless they are a sniper rifle, then >$1500+

If, as you appear to be, not fussy about the condition, <$500 probably and again probably TradeMe unless some hunter collector here is culling his/ her collection :>).

Moved and retitled to a more useful phrasing.

Try these guys - they auction all sorts of rifles and if they dont have the one you want listed they probably will in the next year or so...
