Only slugs, round ball and buck are cast everything else is poured as molten metal through a spout the diameter of which determines the shot size to fall into a cooling bath. Someone here has done it I Remember reading, otherwise I believe the Mt eden shot tower is still for sale.

I have a shot maker I will dig out and post an image

When the lead gets to the right temp it starts dripping through a nipple

You drop it a reasonable distance into a bucket of diesel
Diesel was the best I found
But I guess any light oil
Water left small tails in the shot

@Scout it didn't make the greatest shot in the world
I was seriously into goose shooting with a 20 gauge side by side 40 years ago and made BB shot and reloaded some very hot cartridges

But it might be ok for a 12 gauge muzzleloading shotgun if I can make the right nipple for some #4 shot ?

I fired it up this afternoon and it boiled water pretty bloody quickly
The nipple is rusted in and it's going to take a bit of getting out
Even if I have to drill it out it will be bloody easy to make nipples for it. Simple technology

Might actually be easier to just drill and tap in a new nipple hole and start again leaving the rusty blocked one in there

Just need to find an on line copy of the original pamphlet to find the approx hole diameters for the various shot sizes

I made a new nipple for the shot maker and drilled it out to 2mm because the 1.5mm drill broke in it

I got it going pretty easy
2mm was clearly to big as the lead came out as a stream
Partly blocked it with a pick and got it to a nice slow drip
Dropped into diesel and straight off it's making great shot

Then maybe the diesel got to hot because it was only and small container or the lead was over hot
Anyway it started casting little flat discs

The round shot from the first run was pretty good though
