I doing a sub caliber conversion to something like 22LR, maybe even 9mm, do you think it'd be possible to design a suppressor or a stack of baffles to fit inside the confines of a 12g bore? Wouldn't have much diameter but plenty of length to compensate.

Yeah really pushing it volume wise. 22 could be done. I'd keep a longer barrel, turn down teverything after 11" to 10mm or so and put collars/washers on it to shotgun bore, then port the bbl between washers.
Might have to do that. Couple spare .22 barrels anyone?

, 9mm only gives you 4mm either side for stripping gas. but then 9mm is poo anyway so why bother.

I don't think so........have used them in the past for work, play and competition......even personally owned 2.......quite over them, especially with all of the regulation and restrictions that are wound around their ownership and use here in New Zealand.

it is mate....... the .45lc works just great through it......... they WERE being sold on trademe, the only issue was they were only 2 3/4" long......you really want it to be close to 12" long so it can generate some velocity....fine for point blank on sheep all the same, fella was doing them in all sorts of rimmed cartridges...the .22mag would be useful.

A possibility @m101a1, but not my first choice of calibre. I will sit on my hands in the first instance....but I note there are others here showing interest that might want it.

He does make pistol barrels and often just runs a 32" length and cuts of the short piece the client wants.
So there might be a suitable length if 38 or 9mm there

I will see whats there and what chamber reamers he has that are suitable for that caliber

They certainly kept the extractor simple on the one you put the image up of !
that ejector is flash....I just drop a short length of rod down mine to poke them back out!!!!

IF you could find a .30 cal barrel bit fat enough to make the outside to .12ga dimentions...a m1 carbine round would be ideal.......same thought .303 into .32/20 or 7.62x39mm..... the issue with rimfire rounds is the chamber has to be off centre so shotgun pin hits rim of smaller round.

To add to all this, if someone wants to spend a bit the 12 inch krieghoff einstecklauf adapters are possibly some of the nicest sub-cal inserts I've ever seen. They lock into the chamber and use the extractor/ejector to act on an internal extractor. They're adjustable so you can set them to point of aim then lock the adjustments, so every time it goes in it shoots the same (as long as you index it the same way as last time). Absolutely astounded me first time I got to try one - showed me that stability is far more important than barrel length when shooting - a 12 inch subcal barrel inside a 12 gauge gun shoots as well as a full length 22.

@Phil_H we discussed the barrel stubs today and he does have some suitable that I could make these out of.
But we got side tracked as you do and I never got a rough price on each stub .

I emailed back this evening and should get an idea tomorrow.

As I thought he has a length of 9mm pistol that might make 2 or 3 inserts

These guys do longer inserts, some in rifle calibres, they look pretty cool.

@Phil_H 12" long 9mm barrel sections are $100 each to me including the chamber reamer.

Not sure how long it would take to make one but I'm always keen on a challenge and usually just work for a bottle of scotch whisky
