    Side by side shotgun

Just thought I'd see what's out there in terms of a side by side shotgun. Wanna be able to put steel down it so will need to be modern and as some of you know, I'm a large unit so big is good. Looking at the Baikal at reloaders but figured I'd see what was floating about. Uni student so needs to be less than $1000. Cheers, Matiu

Baikal might be your best option. Plenty of sxs go fir round $50 -200 at auction but they are lead only.
Real pretty modern ones for steel are made by the turkish industry, hulgu, akkar, kahn to name a few. Side by sides are just so good looking everyone should have one or more.

you can fire steel through a bakail with simple operation to open chokes....or you can stick to smaller than #3 shot and lighter payload eg 1 1/16th and be fine.....I use a u/o bakail as it left the factory without issue and the barrel walls are thicker on the SxS .we also have a SxS that has been cut shorter by 2" to remove chokes completely,we still shoot a lot of ducks with that old girl and for close in jump shooting or that last 1/2hr of light when birds are close it is awesome.

So are you suggesting the Baikal is the way to go as well?

they are simply awesome guns fullstop... if you want to know how to backyard bore out the barrels PM me and I will tell you how we did it. that shotgun has been fireing steel since introduction, again no issues. I would happily shoot clays with the open bored Bakail a it points real nice and comes up sweetly for my 6' 120kg bod.

That would be fine with steel as is, fancy interchangeable chokes as well! Only thing wrong is its only got one trigger sxs should have 2

I gotta disagree about the Baikals guys. Yeah solid and dependable....... until you match them with steel shot and they smack themselves to bits. The metal is actually quite soft.
I had one and put a lot of rounds through it on the wabbit board... awesome shotty well up to the task. I've seen a couple that were honed out for steel, when that became the legal requirement and they only lasted a season..... started double firing and such.
But hey I am talking older baikals so may hap the more modern ones are up to it?
