Is this a factory rebarreled 7.62 x 51 or is it in the original 7.62 x 51 CETME cartridge - the loaded pressures are quite differant . If you plan to shoot it and reload it would pay to avoid high pressure loads .

Or rebarrelled 7x57 a photo of the reciever and markings would be useful to anyone thinking of adding it to a military collection

These rifles were used by the Guardia Civil a sort of militarized Police , originaly they were 7x57 but were converted in the 50's to 7.62x51 ( which is a slighlty downloaded .308 ) . The 7.62x51 CETME was a very short lived round which only really existed in the development of the CETME and used a 113 gr projectile ,nothing really more than a souped up 7.62x39 .
So there safe for 7.62x51 and should easily handle 308 rounds .

    Hi folks.

It's stamped 7.62 only and he was told by the previous owner not to use commercial 308 but to use 7.62 x 51 NATO or light 308win loads.

The 7.62 only is to distinguish the rifle from any 7x57 rifles .
The difference between 7.62 and 308 is largely in the dimensions , this explains it better
7.62x51mm NATO or 308 Winchester? What's the Difference?

Shit that sights optomistic, we all know that 308s run into an invisible wall and stop at 800 yards right! It does look tidy though.
