steel plate offcuts... 10mm 6mm etc

Hi once again team of pin cushions.

Do any of you lot happen to have any offcuts of steel plate lying around?
I need a couple bits about 400mm diameter, not too fussed on thickness but 10mm would be good and 6mm.

    any grade is fine.

    Cheers, 40mm

call up a local engineering workshop and they'll sell you some for a reasonable price

No, generally they don't sell it to you at a realistic price. Its sitting there in the scrap steel bin, and I say, those pieces would be good. How much?? And they go drag out the steel catalogue and try and sell it to you at new price

    You may get lucky though.

I got some 10mm stainless plates from a laser cutting place, left over from cutting flanges. Free.

If you are in Swanson call into West Engineering on Brick Street. See Ricky or Rhys, they generally have offcuts and have always been very good on pricing and easy to deal with.

I have had the opposite experience. Usually been just a few bucks or some beers.

I got them from Vulcan in east tamaki. They were quite small as I wanted them for a job rather than for gongs. But they had bins full of various shapes and sizes.
