    Stihl 660 or 661

    Looking for a new saw as me old 066 is has seen better days. Looking for either a 660 or 661. Must be in excellent condition. Thanks

    661 are junk,Rebuild the old one or find a ms660.If you do end up with a 661 bin the carb and ignition and put the 660 one on and you end up something as reliable as the 660 in a less sturdy frame.

    thanks mate, yeh a lot of people are saying the ms661's have a few issues. i'm sure they will be fine for what i need it for. will only be used a few times a year for firewood etc. ms660 would be the pic tho.

    I am very interested in how the Carb conversion from a MS660 works?Have you done this?

    I have two kits on there way.Replace carb fly wheel and ignition.I am told it cant be done by stihl here every one else in the world seems to do it.Just burnt a few hours this afternoon on another 661 replacing a cracked rear handle.So flimsy compared to the 660.

    you can get rebuild kits for the old girls now....found this out after getting rid of my old girl and nearly cried.... stihl NZ can be a great help.

    Found myself a mint ms660 on TM which i snapped up real quick. Made the right choice by the sounds of it.

    great stuff...now you can look at rebuild of old saw and be ahead of the game big time.
