    Surfcasting reel

My surfcasting reel has crapped out. I have no idea what to look for on the ones on trademe so wondering if anyone on here has one spare they are wishing to sell? Only gets used a couple times a year so doesn't have to be flash, but not after cheap crap either

Also after a couple of rod holders to go into the sand if anyone local has any

    Cheers

Do yourself a favour and get a decent rod stand with an angle iron back to it, saves a lot of time washing sand out of reels.

Don’t buy a cheap plastic looking reel, buy a known brand it will save you a lot of grief.

Sorry Mike I haven’t got anything for sale.

I have a Shimano Baitrunner 8000D that is not getting used and is "as New"
Bought it in from USA - so genuine - cant remember country of manufacture - but some are China and from memory some are Japan or Malaysia
Anyway this one from the better origin/source

Same as this on on TM

I use shimano thunnus reels I have 3 of them 4000,6000,8000 used off the boat for straying basically a slightly upgraded version of the shimano bait runner

If you go with a bait runner type reel for surf casting I would look at the d as above as im not sure how the light waight ci4 of the thunnus frame would go
Getting bashed about and land based fishing weather it be from beach or rocks no matter how hard you try not to be is very hard on gear

Do some research on what’s a good beach reel as some will handle sand better than others and yep as above good rod holders will help
Also a good cleaning after each use I take my rods and reels in the shower with me and give them a rinse with mildly hot water don’t use a high pressure on the reels as you will force salt into the reel
A quick soap down and another rinse off and your reel will be as good as you can get it
If you wish a light coating of crc tackle gard or inox don’t drown the reel in it just spray some on a rag and wipe down
Don’t forget to tighten the drag as tight as it will go before cleaning (helps stop stuff from getting into the reel)
But make sure you back it right off to freespool for storeage

Good advice, thanks for that, particularly the cleaning...I think that's half the reason my old one crapped out, was a bit rough on it so if get a quality reel will need to look after it
