    Thompson Contender G2

Time to sell my Thompson Contender G2, not getting the use anymore as I use my G1 more often and other projects on the go. In great condition, a few normal signs of wear, scratches (chip in the stock, see photo). Barrel is excellent, hasn't seen a lot of rounds through it. Shoots 55gr and 62gr .223 projectiles well. Factory length barrel which is 23" but the overall length of the rifle is still minimal.

For those who don't know anything about the Thompson Contender, it's a single shot break open via the trigger guard spur, complete with centerfire and rimfire selection on the same frame (top of the hammer spur). An interchangeable barrel platform. Very simple and takes no more than a minute to swap barrels, just undo the two screws in the front hand guard and remove, then tap out the barrel/frame hinge pin. This modern Contender is easier to open than the older G1 versions and allows shooters to cock the hammer, lower it, and re-cock without the need to break the action open again which the G1 requires. Has an automatic hammer block safety. Also to note, G1 Contender barrels WILL fit the G2 frame, I've personally done this.

Selling with the 1" steel scope rings (forgotten which make). Has a great trigger, nice and light (much improved compared to the G1). Asking for $1350 plus post. Doesn't come with original box, but would be packaged appropriately. Located in Whakatane if picked up. PM me if interested. Usual FAL requirements. Thanks.

Yeah that's correct. Swapping barrels doesn't change the zero, so with my Contender G1 I have scopes on each barrel . It's a neat little system. Joel

Joel, they look like Burris Z Signature rings with the plastic inserts.

Thanks dogmatix, that's the ones Burris Signature Zee Rings. Twist is 1:12" I believe and if I'm not mistaken Thompson Center has only chambered the .223 in that twist. They've shot federal 62gr well (that might be at its upper end of capability with 1:12"). In all honesty though, I've never handloaded for this rifle (or bothered for the .223), usually shot the Hornady 55gr SP roughly 1 MOA using fairly substandard shooting rests like a sleeping bag etc. I've never claimed to shoot as well as the rifle can. Took a couple of deer with it, then it's been put aside for a while. Thanks.

Too bad you don't handload for this. These generally shoot better than I can (1/2") if you seat the bullet out to touch the rifling. Other barrels run $275 in USA. 7-30 Waters, 30-30 Ackley and a host of wildcats all shoot very well.

    Good luck with your sale

Thanks Cowboybart, I've still got a G1 Contender 223 barrel, it might also go up for sale since getting a CZ. I've been interested in the wildcat rounds... Have you got a few, where have you sourced them from in the US? I have the 30-30 barrel suppressed on the G1 frame at 4.5 lb for ultralight missions. I thought Ackley improved could be interesting, I'm handloading for the 30-30. Joel

Hi Husky, I'm based in Whakatane, Bay of Plenty. It would be preferable to sell in person as it's much easier but shipping is possible. Thanks
