    Tikka CTR Stainless

    Hi all,

I’m on the look out for a Tikka CTR Stainless in the Wellington region. Happy to drive a bit for collection if required.

I’m not up for the paper work around shipping hence the pick up.

My only requirement is that it’s ‘As new’. 20 inch barrel preferred but I would consider a 24 inch barrel.

    Not worried about the caliber.

    Anything out their?

I’m considering this first before I look at the new Tikka super varmint rough-tech which I do like.

    Thanks, Sanctuary

Thanks mate. Hes adamant its pick up only so that ones out.

GC have a couple of CTRs left and they also have the super varmint which is tempting (Has anyone used that can comment?).

Just trying my luck here first

Thanks for that. I didn’t know the .223 had any problems or that the CTR range had weak springs. Considering the mags are $400 bucks each perhaps this may be a reason/consideration as to why some people move to a chassis.

Would the tikka super varmint be a better move the instead of the CTR?

    Thanks,
    Sanctuary.

You can mod mdt mags, but you spend all that coin. Beretta nz not interested . Had 7 of us with them all the same fault.
It's a great rifle just mags let it down.

@C7A1 - thanks for that. Sounds like a CTR is off the cards, I assume this is why everyone puts them in another stock such as a bravo etc and after market stocks seem far and few between for these

Right, so ruling out the CTR which really is a shame, how about the Tikka super Varmit or any other suggestion team.
I am looking for a medium or heavy barrel with mags that are available. What about the Tikka TAC A1?

Put the Varmint or Super Varmint in the Bravo stock and use the AICS mags.

I've found my CTR in 7mm-08 to be fine. Also grabbed a cheap .308.
My gunsmith also likes the CTR as a whole.

Magazines are about $250 I think in Australia. No issues yet. I think the old Sako TRG used the same.

Or, get a S/H varmint , select a stock/chassis and under 2k you might have as something you configured for you. Probably with AICS type mags.

Carried my CTR 7MM-08 in the car a bit, worked well for me.

Thanks Dogmatrix. I like the idea, but I cannot find a bravo stock or AICS mags to suit.

My 7mm-08 I got on clearance. It's not common/popular in Australia it's capabilities are a well kept secret.
Secondhand I've seen CTRs for $1000 to asking near new.
    .7mm-08 and .260 .
Look for new old stock, you might be able to lay-by if you find one.
You can get 8-10 shot single stack mags that fit the standard Tikka rifles. Waters Rifleman and Lucky 13 are 2 brands.
Don't give up, I like my CTR
If you got a good secondhand at $1200 I would think it would be ok and should work straight off.

@CBH Australia - never seen a CTR in 7mm-08. They do them here in NZ in .223, 6.5CM and .308.
The .223 comes in 1/8 or 1/12 twist rate and they all come in various lengths of either 20 or 24.

The base model CTR is around $2400 now, adjustable check raiser model around $2699.
We also get the UPR model for around $3200.

They do come up cheaper than that but to be honest the mail order process is a PITA so I avoid it now.
Something will come up its just a waiting game.

    Cheers,
    Sanctuary.
