.308 BSA Monarch with 2.5x Weaver scope, ex deceased estate of a trophy hunter, an honest hunting rifle with an excellent (like new) bore, I have just fitted new QD swivels, new recoil pad, pillar bedded and a 2.5lb trigger job, shoots MOA with 150 grain Federal when I tried it out last week. $650 plus shipping costs.

.22 BSA Supersport Five in original untampered condition, manufactured in 1956, about 85% original blue, perfect bore, excellent trigger, walnut stock with some minor handling marks, an excellent shooter and highly collectable as most have been modified for scope use, $500 plus shipping costs.

That .308 would be a mint buy for someone starting out.

Leave the Tikka on the rack and put the $900 you'll save towards a good pair of binos instead. That 2.5x scope (if in good nick) will be everything you need for shots within 150m.

A solid, tried and tested firearm. Maintain it properly, and that thing will last another few lifetimes.

I have had a CF2 I regret selling and a Majestic turning up soon (form finally processed!) but I would LOVE a Monarch. Very nice rifles.

Pity the rifle budget is exhausted, I would buy both.

My thoughts exactly. The scope is in good condition with a plain crosshair reticle.

Free bump. I owned the 22 Supersport for a short time . . . it was a good shooter with a superb trigger but I didn't have the heart to drill it for scope mounts and I wanted a scoped 22 in the "Annie" class without the pricetag- hence its still original

@gundoc, dont suppose you've any spare mags for a supersport 5 have you. If you dont sell the rifle too quick I may be up for it after some bills are paid. Ask your club secretary, I'm good for it !

Would it be a crime to chop/supress the 308?

No, if you wish to use it, have it as it suits you. Have chopped and threaded my "Hunters" and "Majestic".
