They're the shit. I've got 2. Get the side zip option so you can sit in them as well as sleep.

Also get snake skins which make storage simple. ... And some abseil rings which make tensioning the system very easy as shown in this video

They sell and ship them from NZ, the bloke that created them lives here 6 months of the year and has a warehouse down south somewhere. Its the sort of thing you will love them or hate them. I had one and I wasn't a convert at all, not very easy to roll over in them, and they are very cold without the underlay etc, so you end up carrying more gear to stay warm rather than sleeping on the ground. I know a lot of people love them though so very much a personal experience, maybe Im just a fussy bastard.

I found the same as oneshot. In fact the very first hunt I took mine on I walked back out the next day as it was way too cold to wanna spend a night in it again. Would be fine in warmer weather though

With laying in it you compress the sleeping bag and it doesnt really work anymore and you end up with a cold back though when I talked about it on the forum someone sent me a link to a video and the guy said those foam matts and a sun visor thing you put on your wind screen work to keep you warm

If you do end up buying one NEW, buy it online during their Xmas sale when they offer a free "scout" (kids) size hammock with a regular hammock purchase. I used mine 3x before I flicked it. I'm 6ft 7 and a side sleeper. Not a good combination for me.

I take a sleeping mate of that thin foam stuff they use under laminate flooring, works a treat.

The cheapest solution to the cold arse problem is to buy a double width closed cell matt from the warehouse and then cut it down into a teardrop shape to fit both you and the hammock. A single width mat gives you the cold shoulder and also slides around in the hammock.

The best but more expensive solution is to buy a underquilt. I wouldn't be without mine. It's not necessarily lighter than a tent but great to snooze in during the day and no rising damp from the wet ground. You either love or hate them so try them out in your backyard before going on a trip with them.

Every time I moved the bloody thing would sway back and forth, I ended up feeling sea sick sleeping on the ground never felt so good after that, give me my Huntech fly and a foam pad any day.

It's like being rocked to sleep by my mamma. The elastic ties at the side should limit the swaying and stop it going on forever. Not flopping around in it like a dead fish trying to straighten the sleeping mat also helps. It's either a love or hate thing.

I bought one of these mats to place inside my Hennessey.

Brand New Camping Mat 1.8m with EVA Foam | Trade Me

Weighs SFA and works well with the aluminium side towards you.

    Cheers

Does it have to be Hennessey?
This is Ureweras in the late 90's and have a few more grey hairs. A bit wiser but fuk all to be fair

Any hammock will require an insulation mat under you. Just like in a tent etc. No different

There is a member on here who a few years ago on a central north island hunt took his Hennessey. Two of us were under a fly and the hammock tied between the only substantial trees about. Part way through the night one tree lost the will to stay upright

Get the biggest size they have (safari deluxe) the weight and packing difference is next to nothing, might as well be as comfortable as you can be with the larger size, they should come with snake skins? you really need these x2 for fast pack up.

+1 on the larger size. You don't want to be cramped. Any old hammock will work but the Hennessey had the asym design that allows you to sleep flatter. @P38 that mat will work but a cut down double width one will move around less and keep your shoulder warmer.
