    Wanted...old DE razor (Gillette?).

Guys, I have a 'modern' DE safety razor...but would like to try some vintage razor/s too.
    Like this sort of thing.

    Or this.

No bent, broken, or damaged as I want to clean it up and use it for my morning shave.

I had bought this from USA as a special treat to me...

    And USPS 'delivered' this...

So if you have a nice tidy 'old school' safety razor you don't use then please pm with piccy's and price, etc.
    Thanks.

You can buy quite nice new ones, i believe the shaver shop has some. Damn shame that set was destroyed in the post though.

Why not a straight razor? Something your grandkids can inherit...

Naver really got the hang of the fishtail razorblades.
. plus you're still throwing them out on the regular. Cut-throat, you buy one. Will do ya till you're dead.

Yes, I have a nice modern one. All stainless steel Timeless OC.
It's nice. It's better than 'nice'. I already know all the usual NZ suspects if I just wanted to go shopping for new.
But the itch to try for that elusive perfect shave that maybe a vintage can satisfy.
No cut throat thanks. At 74 (almost) I really don't need to be waving a cut throat around!
I do have my G-Grand Dad's cut throat. It's pre 1890 Wellmann (yes, it is old), but I won't use that...needs a polish up, needs a sharpen job too. Not for me.
If anyone wants a nice rare collector piece then lets talk. I'm OK with selling it. I say it's rare because the Wellmann really is. Not the usual old scruffy stuff as found on TM.
Yeah, bloody USPS stuffed that lovely Aristocrat...then said "it wasn't us".

I have a diagonal scar on my chin from using one of the damn blade razors. I was 18 or 19 ,about 1976 or so , getting ready to go out on a Friday night and chase the chickies , when I slashed my f*cking chin with that razor blade . I spent the next 6 hours bleeding into a towel before it finally stopped. Now I have a scar , a beard to hide it , and no desire ever use one of those things ever again.
Be more involved and less impressed.

I started DE shaving in 2010 with an Edwin Jagger DE98 - it's still my favourite razor: https://www.edwinjagger.co.uk/edwin-...or-chrome.html

I have a barely used Merkur Futur if that takes your interest? https://shop.dovo.com/en/merkur-rasierer-futur-700.html
I found it quite aggressive, even though you can dial it down. But that was many years ago, and I was using Feather blades at the time which I have since debunked as being any good (yeah yeah all reviews online say they are the best, and sharpest etc ), so they were probably the problem.

I was given this about 7 years ago. Didn't think I would like it, but once I got used to using it I like it and have stuck with it.

Real shame to see the Gillette Aristocrat arrive in such poor condition but great to see the Merkur Futur mentioned. My experience of DE safety razors began with such a beast.

All the reviews I read warned that it wasn't the best choice for a first timer. Never one to heed such nonsense, I duly purchased and proceeded to shave half my face off on multiple occasions.

My impression at the time was that was like driving a fully laden big truck in comparison to the Gillette Sensor cartridge razors I had been using for the previous few decades which handled like a sports bike.

Promptly switched to the modern Wilkinson Sword Classic and developed a better technique which led to baby butt smooth shaves and zero blood loss.

Currently enjoying a Boker Low Profile which lacks the convenience of butterfly opening, but handles really nicely. I'll have to try that Futur again

Best of luck in your search for a vintage classic

You certainly can't safely shave with a safety razor if you are in a hurry!

I'm a great fan of the safety razor when needing to remove a couple of days stubble. A monday morning luxury.

Found my razor when cleaning out the attic of a deceased neighbour.

A Futur? Not sure about that (yet).
I've been reading about them...seems to be either love or hate with the Futur.
I'll flick you a PM anyway.

I should add that at almost 74 (6 days away), I have wet shaved for about 55+ years now.
    Each morning, every morning.
Part of my daily ritual. Probably because of years in NZ Regular Army (Artillery), and then NZ Fire Service.
A man has to shave every day or he will look like a bum (I read that somewhere).
So my search for an older razor leads me away from the modern designs and back to the razors of my youth.
But...no way will I ever go to Made in China copies, or those horrible plastic throw away things.
Man has to have some dignity!
Cheers guys, and thanks for those various photos and replies.
