Winchester 1892 Octoganal Barrel Sporting Rifle 44WCF

Manufactured between 1892 and 1900 going off the markings. This was likely a special order rifle due to its unusual configuration of octagonal barrel and button magazine.
It is in reasonable/good condition considering its age. It has been used, but still functions well, and locks up tight.
The bore doesnít look fantastic. There is still rifling present, and it isnít ďfurryĒ, but there is historic pitting, after all it was probably manufactured in the era preceding smokeless powder.
    Chambered in 44WCF (44/40).
Although it isnít in perfect shape, itís early manufacture and uncommon configuration make it a bit of a collectors piece.
Iím after $850.00 for it, if it doesnít go here itíll probably end up on trademe for more than that.

Post the serial number and I will look up the year of manufacture. The half-magazine octagonal barrel was a standard catalogue item.

Ok interesting to know. The early manufacture 1892’s had lightly stamped serial numbers, and on many of them, this one included, they wore easily and become illegible. This one only the last to digits are there.
I had it dated by an 1892 expert in the states, and he said going off the barrel and tang markings it was manufactured between 1892 and 1900.

I have one of these , it's a very early one, end of 1892 from memory. It's with friend who loves them. Serial number is very clear, has octagonal barrel. Great piece of manufacturing. Full length mag.

I haven’t fired it, so couldn’t tell you. I’d say it should be an alright shooter, I had one with a similar looking bore that was better than minute-of-deer.

Nice. 32-20 seems to be more common, if not slightly less desirable, in NZ. I saw a carbine sell the other month for over $1300 though, couldn’t bloody believe it!
