    WTB: Nissan Safari

After selling the cruiser I'm after a SWB Safari GQ. Needs to be manual, well looked after and no rust in it, particularly the roof. The few on trademe that fit the bill have rust in them unfortunately.

Good luck finding one without rust nowdays.
Maybe someones grandmother has one that has lived in the garage all of it's life.

After I grenaded the engine of my '94 GQ, I was on the hunt for one to replace it. Gave up in the end as there was a lot of flogged out crap for sale, with fresh bog and paint everywhere to hide the rust. In the guards, and top of windscreen mostly.

Ended up with a later model SWB Prado.

Not nearly as much fun to drive offroad, but still does the job.

Yeh it's not easy. Last three I've looked had rust in the roof around the sides and back. Last two didn't know it was there.

You'll still find nice ones, you'll just pay more for them. Can't have the GQ cake and eat it too

Yeh just going to buy a cheap car until I can find a tidy one. Not worried about paying a bit more just not the 17-22k some dealers are asking.

Cheers man. Just called and sounds tidy and low kms. 12k but it's an auto. Anyone know the cost of changing to manual. I've heard it's cheaper to do a change to manual box rather than recon the autos if they crap out.

Just hang on a bit, better to buy exactly what you want then have to spend money on top of the purchase. Here's my GQ shopping tip, get a patrol instead. They are the NZ new safari and therefore haven't seen salt roads like the jap ones often have. Also come with 12v electrics and factory rear diff locker. Strangely they are often reasonably priced too

Cheers for the advice. Don't see too many of those come up though eh but yeh 12k for an auto is getting a bit steep.

There is a very very nice one down the road from me. Fully built and not yet buggered. It's an auto but that wouldn't put me off, in many ways it's better for off road than manual.

The auto's are total rubbish, especially behind a turbo motor.

About $4k to convert to a manual. Be sure to get the super heavy duty clutch.
