WTB: Single Shot in 223 for my boys' first rifle

My 2 boys are 9 and turning 12 and I am keen to get them 'their own' little 223....with their sister they have their names allocated across my collection should anything befall me but I thought a wee single shot might be a better way to start than on my E-Cat RRA Predator!

So if anyone can help with a BRNO K1 or Bergara Apex or comments on what to look for etc please drop me a line....

Yel was hoping for something a bit nicer. There is a K1 on there too. And a nice apex wood/stainless but it is 222.

I would recommend a Rossi. We have 4 of them in differant calibres , have never had them "pop open" or any of the other tales of woe you hear about them. I also have a couple of Hand R Handi Rifles , and the Rossi's get used far more than the H&Rs. The riggers can be a bit heavy but that is fixable without too much expense.

What about the Ruger American all weather compact in .223.
    its great for $750!
Heres my 8 yo (now nine) shooting it...
It has a detatchable 5rnd box magazine, but its easy to load a single round through the ejection port...

Does look compact... was keen on a single shot mainly for extra safety, but I would watching their every move so food for thought....where did you pick up for $750?

Just seems better to buy something that they can keep using into the future.

or you could just buy a "bob sled" single shot adapter for your AR and let them "have at it" (but when an excuse for another gun purchase presents itself it should be acted upon)

I got this Ruger from Reloaders, but contact Firearms & Ammunition | Gun Supplies | Shooters Supplies as well, as they were good to deal with and can get them if they don't have stock...
The rifle is a bit heavy for standing shots for a 9yr old, but ok for an 11 yo. but my kids mostly use it with a bipod.
Its bolt action so single shot, 5 shot is up to you as the supervisor in how many you want to load...

Just saying as when my kids started shooting, my 7yo at the time used a single shot mag on his CZ scout, but after the first time out at the range it was never used again...
