If you are after the older MC version just import one. Most guys want more for a second hand one than you can import a new one for.

Euro optic and optics planet were the places to buy them for about $630 landed (GST inc) it seems they are all sold out now. If you buy a Meopta MeoPro 3-9x40 - the important part in bold - it is the same scope as the Zeiss Conquest MC, Meopta made the scopes on Zeiss' behalf. You can get those landed for about 800 bucks (Gst inc) still hands down a better scope than any other brand for $800 (yes that includes leupold) that is with the German #4 Ret, you can be sourced for about $60 cheaper with standard duplex. Next step up imo is the HD5 although a much larger scope. personally I would look closely at Leica ER5's for about 12-1300 if you don't want to import. But it really depends on your budget.

I don't think the meopro was the same scope, but widely known that meopta made the glass in the conquests for Zeiss - no bad thing, meopta are very underrated. Ilya Koshkin did an excellent review of these back to back, and clear they're a different scope. I'd rather have the meopta to be honest.

See my original post, its the 40 thats the important part, the 42 is a different scope.

Ah, gotcha. Bloody interesting - wonder if they are "Zeiss" or meopta internals? Either is a little puzzling...

I was of the understanding that metopa only made the glass?
The conquest was always a lemon

That's why I put Zeiss in " " - they seem to be a red headed step child rather than an actual Zeiss. Made from bits (glass being the best bit) and assembled by the same people who brought us US cars...

They brought them em to try and compete with the likes of the swarovski Z3 market.
Agree great glass, of the handful I've owned only 1 didn't have "issues"

Conquest have always been a bugger for specs of dust inside the glass or on the reticle. A QA problem. I first struck it with a 3-10 Conquest. Even my HD5 has a speck on the reticle.

I raised it with EuroOptics and they said it was quite common and to smack the 'scope onto something firm like a cushion until they disappeared.
When a big black blob appeared I did take the scope off and smack it into the palm of my hand, and it did disappear and hasn't returned. A bit brutal though.
